John Winkelman from San Diego, California has studied composition with John Zdechlik, conducting with Robert Hallquist and music performance on tuba with Ross Tolbert of the Minnesota Orchestra. Originally from St. Paul Minnesota he has lived in San Diego since 1987. Busy with performing with the Heliotrope Ragtime Orchestra, Pomerado Brass Quintet, Coronado Community Band, and singing with the Germania Choir, he still finds time for composing and arranging. He also is the conductor of the Hillcrest Wind Ensemble since 2002. He has been a member of the American Composers Forum since 2007.
