Bogoro ditse Devo (Russian Advent Hymn)

This powerful adaptation by Dr. Garcia is taken from the 6th movement of the "All Night Vigil" by Sergei Rachmaninoff and was composed in 1915.  It was one of the first collections banned by the new government of Communist Russia.  The translation of the title is "Rejoice, oh Blessed Virgin."  Scored with the option to play with the band arrangement.

Performance Notes: 

This piece appears simple on first look but brings the String Orchestra many challenges in intonation and dynamic control.  The second/third Violins and Viola must bring out the melody at mm. 45 and the crescendo at mm. 51 is critical to bring the Orchestra to the tutti double forte in the pick-up to mm. 52 (letter F).  The arranger says that the conductor should not be too timid about this double forte!
